Lauren and Matt

Well, lovelies, I had such fun planning this spring ceremony with Lauren and Matt, who gave new meaning to the term, Destination Wedding! This couple chose not to escape with their guests to a beautiful beachside locale, but instead invited their family and friends to their own coastal condo! The effect was a unique and deeply personal way to start their new life together at their own home-away-from-home.

The Big Picture

The morning ceremony was peaceful and intimate with only family and a few close friends witnessing the exchange of vows against the backdrop of the Gulf’s gorgeous blue-green waters. But the sweet serenity then escalated into a soulful celebration – for what better way to pay homage to the couple’s New Orleans roots than with a five-piece brass band that entertained them at brunch.

In terms of festivities, Lauren wanted to keep things simple, but memorable, and the popular Fisher’s in Orange Beach provided the perfect atmosphere for a little dining, a little dancing, and a whole lot of fun.

All the Details

The personal sentiment Lauren and Matt desired was captured in so many details of their big day. The groom’s cake was a special surprise to Matt, and he and his family even shared a few sweet tears upon its reveal. As Matt has a career in his family’s home remodeling business, the cake was a replica of their familiar company logo. The flavor? Carrot cake – Matt’s favorite. Take a peek for a few more details…

Bride Lauren will forever have memories of her special day in their special place, and she and Matt can relive their wedding festivities every time they visit their condo.

Amber and Brook

It’s rare to find a bride who is willing to sacrifice eight weeks of planning and move her wedding date UP two months for any reason, but for Amber, this was a small price to pay to secure her ideal location, and the end result was well worth it. For Amber and Brook, saying their vows atop a bluff overlooking the waters of Mobile Bay was of the utmost importance, and when the time arrived, I couldn’t have pictured a setting more serene and utterly breathtaking. The Big Picture There is nothing more special to me than when a bride and groom ask members of their family to play a role in the ceremony. In this case, it was truly a family affair: Amber arrived in a horse-drawn carriage escorted by her son and father , it was Brook’s daughters who served as flower girls, and his brother who officiated the ceremony. With only family and close friends in attendance, the effect was intimate, peaceful, and incredibly romantic. All the Details The focal point of the ceremony was a gorgeous 4-poster arbor adorned with white draping, tied back with cascading white rose arrangements that resembled bouquets. A twinkling chandelier hung overhead and white rose petals were sprinkled on the grass below – a picture perfect scene for Amber and Brook to say their vows. Mother Nature provided plenty of sunshine for the outdoor occasion and a harpist played during the ceremony and reception, adding to the dream-like quality of the entire event. Guests indulged in gourmet sandwiches and three different flavors of cupcakes, which were arranged in a tower and topped with a small carrot cake made specially for the bride and groom. Mary and Clay

Lovelies, we’ve all heard the adage that a little rain on your wedding day is good luck in a marriage, so let me be the first to say that Mary and Clay should have decades of wedded bliss ahead!

The Big Picture

I truly had my work cut out for me when this beautiful couple’s late April wedding was hit with a storm that not only brought torrential rain showers, but thunder, lightning, and dangerous wind gusts resulting in an unraveling reception tent, power outages at the church and the hotel where the guests were staying, and downed trees in the roadway.

But fear not…through it all, Mary stayed focused on the purpose of the day – to marry her beloved Clay. And somehow, even though Mother Nature had concocted an enormous recipe for disaster, all the essential details fell into place. In fact, the lack of electricity lent itself well to an unexpectedly romantic atmosphere created at the church through candlelight and the last few rosy rays of post-storm sunlight coming in through the window panes. The vows were still exchanged, all of the guests made it safely through the littered streets to the reception, the cake was cut and by the end of the night the storm was long forgotten.

All the Details

With families on sides of both the bride and the groom living out of town, all but one of the couple’s guests traveled to Lower Alabama to see them wed. As a special thank you, upon arrival to their hotel guests were treated to a gift bag filled with Mary and Clay’s favorite hometown goodies: beef jerky from Clay’s native Texas, and iced sugar cookies from Mary’s favorite bakery in Indiana. Additionally, the couple arranged for transportation to all events throughout the weekend to ease the burden from their visitors.

For the rehearsal dinner, everyone was invited to indulge in a true low country boil prepared by the bride’s brother-in-law, Chef Will Hughes, and hosted at the home of Dr. and Mrs. William Sullivan in Fairhope. And for dessert? A surprise visit from an ice cream truck (nostalgic music and all) – a fabulous frozen surprise for kids and adults alike. To top off the feast and the night, guests were invited to enjoy a bonfire, cocktails and s’mores, at the Grand Hotel.

In every element of the wedding, the couple incorporated their most important value: family. From Mary’s custom cathedral-length veil with flower embellishments sewn on from her mother’s wedding gown, to the bride’s chosen processional song (“When Irish Eyes are Smiling” – the same song played when her parents exited the church at their own wedding), to the “Czech Wedding March” played at the reception – a tradition from the groom’s family, every detail was wrapped up in meaning and love.

Take a look…
